Op de Contemporary Art Ruhr (C.A.R.) in Essen (Duitsland) is voor het eerst een preview van ‘Falling Man, a journey’ te zien.

Dit project komt voort uit de samenwerking tussen kunstenaar Marieke Bolhuis en filosoof Katja Rodenburg.  ´Falling Man, a journey´ bestaat uit een tentoonstelling van de ´Falling Man´- serie foto´s en een bijbehorende essay. In 2011 en 2012 wordt het project verder gerealiseerd.

De foto ‘Falling into the moon’ hangt met de bijbehorende tekst -in Engelse en Duitse vertaling- in de ruimte van gallery Ververs uit Amsterdam.

Falling into the moon

The man falls into the landscape and does not notice it. The moon only shines when there is no other light. Thought disappears and becomes a vague memory, vainly asking for attention. The man just keeps falling – freed from reason, detached from the earth. In his dreams he proudly carries the landscape and throws his hair back. He feels as being lifted up by the world. They resemble each other. The hairlines and the cracks in the skull are like the grooves on the land.

Without the landscape his skull is bare. The man who falls into the moon can only live outside his own consciousness. As soon as he lands he irrevocably changes what he loves, and he sees his beloved nature disappear under his hands. The light of the sun is too bright. But not now yet – he just keeps falling. Because once he has landed and woken up everything will be forgotten. What remains is an unfulfillable longing. Only when he will never wake up he will be one.

´C.A.R. 2011 pulsiert – mit Medienkunst und Fotografie aus Belgien, Frankreich, den Niederlanden, der Schweiz sowie aus den USA

Lebendig, vielseitig, avantgardistisch und inspirierend: In nur wenigen Jahren ist mit der contemporary art ruhr (C.A.R.) und den beiden jährlich stattfindenden Messen, der Medienkunstmesse im Sommer, und der innovativen Kunstmesse im Herbst, ein erfolgreiches und viel beachtetes Format für zeitgenössische Kunst von nationaler und internationaler Strahlkraft entstanden. In Kürze startet nun die Medienkunstmesse der C.A.R. 2011 und lädt vom 3. bis 5. Juni 2011 auf dem Welterbe Kokerei Zollverein, in Essen, zum Besuch einer geballten Mischung pulsierender Medienkunst ein.

Im ehemaligen Salzlager, das heute die Installation „Palace of Projects“ der Künstler Ilya und Emilia Kabakov beherbergt, sowie auf vier Ebenen der Mischanlage der Kokerei Zollverein, mit riesigen Kohle-Bunkern und Trichteranlagen, findet die Medienkunstmesse seit 2006 für alle Kunstbereiche statt, die den herkömmlichen Präsentationsrahmen sprengen: ob Videokunst, Installationen, multimediale oder dreidimensionale Projekte, ob Lichtkunst oder Performance-Kunst. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt ist der Bereich Fotografie.´
